Giving myself a talking-to
Well.
You've got yourself
into a bit of difficulty, haven't you?
How many times do I have to tell you
not to put someone else on a pedestal?
It's not fair on them, and not fair on you.
So easy to say; so hard to do.
Able to live with unequal friendships
(aren't most of them like that, at some point?)
you continue to love, and give, and entertain
but for whose actual benefit?
Sooner or later, it all comes crashing down.
You'll come to see
that atop that metaphorical hill
stands a mirage; an illusion.
Real people line the rugged path
between here and there,
having had a long way to fall.
Go and sit among them; meet them there
but accept that your needs
must be met elsewhere.
