Lost

Maybe you had to lose them,
So that you wouldn't lose yourself.
Whomever said that I must condemn,
Especially with all the darkness from me she expelled.

If I had to choose between not losing myself or her,
The mere thought of choosing yours truly makes me bitter.
How can you choose to say no,
When her simple smile keeps the dark thoughts pressed deep below.
Why would you choose yourself not to be lost when an uncomplicated gaze,
Can have you floating on cloud nine for days.
Even when you're all alone,
The mere thought of her makes you feel safe and at home.

I am so used to carrying the weight of everyone's darkness,
Why should all suffer when I single-handedly can handle the stress.
But when shown how it feels to cast off the extra weight,
Such relief and bliss I didn't think I could create.

And yet I found it nuzzling into your neck and holding you close,
I've come to realize I'm addicted to you; longing for another dose.
I know that it's nothing new to you to be the target of someone's poetry,
Whether they wrote it by the sea; or under a tree.
But for the whole world to see,
I wish you were here with me.
You could have my whole being under lock and key,
I'd even proclaim to the heavens to be free.
I never had the desire before you to take a knee,
But who can claim as much when faced with such beauty.

If I'm ever lost,
Know that I've paid the cost.
If I'm on this path for too much longer my heart my turn to frost,
And all fucks to the wind will be tossed.
