Image for the poem prison flick

prison flick

each dawn we die
keys to our big house
lost somewhere inside

escape from alcatraz tonight
no saws, just redemption
no brute force in this internal flight

like birdman we’ve got wings
even if we do
20,000 years in sing sing

instead let’s crack their criminal code
do you remember voting
for profitable prison mode?

jailers now jealously guard
the guilty history of our identity
see the woke accused of fraud

country club opinions
fresh & nice in their dress whites
can’t become this nation’s religion

we’ll keep our eyes on freedom
wealth is never worth
we all must wrestle our own demons

we’re taking orders from the unelected
sam alito’s final scene
has vote suppression going undetected

fairness now comes off as funny
only stuck here due to fear
diseases die where it’s bright and sunny

i’ll shine that sunlight
with hope you’ll see it
i’m tired of lies, let’s make it right

by and for the people
it can’t last
in a nation of fearful sheeple
