square up city
life bequests top-tier tests
often dreadfully orbital
wilder instincts are the best
emerging from the terminal
coax light up from the wells
to outshine bold distractions
not wise to fight the swells
simply slide under the factions
instruments of thy peace
can quickly be engulfed
the flames of pain won't ever cease
feeding from that trough
even though a few years older
interfearence comes alive
i hadn't seen him on my shoulder
restless eyes can't open wide
yet i sensed a pointed glare ...

shine
when it's dark
there's trouble in heart
it must be time to shine
when on my knees
begging please
i'm way out of conga line
dancing together
spreading our feathers
releases those fears of mine
there is a good reason
for chillier seasons
elusive yet deeply sublime
spring always comes
after i'm done
lighting my fire signs

let there be a homecoming
fall sun on a dare
shines over these fields
breaking through smokey air
highlighting a loss that is real
in the spirit of the season
stretch way up - follow the Breath
we're bound to find the reason
our pain's so keen it built a fence
we ask Earth Mother
shall we ever get better at living as one
or is defeating all others
the core struggle that must be won?
flailing with fix 'em up souls
Humanity beaten and bloodied
we waste time digging holes
Family yet blinded and muddied
the love in us...
shines over these fields

pawn shop buddha
in the pawn shop sat a Buddha
Fat Hotei, not Gautama
he looked so goddamn jolly
i was in the Hot Ice Follies
i said, if next time no one's bought you,
i'll hit you with a harrowing haiku
i'll have something for you, he said
keep it real and i'll soothe your head
when i finally pawned my last belonging
i committed myself to radical disarming
i explained i'd carried it all my life -
a studded crucifix concealing a knife
he giggled with a belly that jiggled
then cocked his head over like playin'...

new liberation song
time to dance a new world in
to weigh life’s load from within
without a clue how to begin
we’ll just sit awhile - with 7 deadly sins
our righteous groove is gone
so from our hearts we’ll sing a song
our jailbreak of souls will be elegant and strong
if we’ll meet humbly with what’s gone wrong
to this earth we plead forgiveness
we’ve strangled our host because - good business
while confidence blocked us with dreams of our fitness
a flood of impudent truth rose up in our basements
Lord God Universe and all Benevolent...
to weigh life’s load from within
without a clue how to begin
we’ll just sit awhile - with 7 deadly sins
our righteous groove is gone
so from our hearts we’ll sing a song
our jailbreak of souls will be elegant and strong

the eighth gradation
once dis-informed perpetually
a formerly functioning community
comes apart most naturally
this steady degradation
of a first world nation
led to ever darker gradations
in a daylight highway robbery
the open carry of hollow point bribery
has been sold to us as unique liberty
find the predators in the scene
who pays mad-dogs to be mean
the nuttiest rep.s we’ve ever seen?
work to graduate out of eighth grade nation
where stunted minds skew participation
where the misshapen pollute the whole of creation ...

a gerbil neural pathway
some gerbils are just one color
some are spotted with others
Mongolian gerbils were a gift
from my nurturing Irish nurse mother
Siamese gerbils have dark tails and ears
although few gerbils ever inspire fear
furry family members proved too much
for my father, the angular German engineer
a cold look on that face of stone
we could never have predicted finding him alone
with gerbils running to and fro on his arms
watching us play had set a new tone
dad had become the gerbils’ best runway
he had formed a gerbil...

dream property prancer
the aura of the garden is stunning
statues like marble gods are sunning
this wildly familiar dream home
predictably finds me happily alone
with round hills rolling off in the distance
a sense of peace brings easy indifference
i return here in those vivid dreams
far more real than they might seem
while it’s clear that everything crumbles
an obsession with smooth can make me stumble
