Do I hear impeachment
This one was written some 2.5 years ago. And, perhaps naïvely, I thought that he had left the stage. Now I’m no longer sure…..
A higgeldy piggeldy:
Two sets of four lines.
6 syllables per line.
Second line of the second set is one word of 6 syllables.
Last line of each set (to your own liking) 4 or 6 syllables.
Last lines of the two sets must rhyme.
This one = 3 groups of 2 sets.
Voilà!

Trotsky was removed from
a picture of Stalin
almost a century
foul politics
Leaked talks with journalists
autoritarian
or blatently sexist
ideas 'bout chicks

suspect misdemeanors
low crimes by high people
great journalists

Caused by a new trend in
sustainability
renewed trust that the truth
is sorely missed
The first lady looks great
seems like that's important
Fuels Max's jealousy
glued to Will's side
Don's greatest enemy

will not convince his wife
nothing to hide

I still struggle.

Author's Note
Over the years, I've written hunderds and hundreds of songs based on the English verse form 'Higgeldy Piggeldy’. In Dutch: Olleke Bolleke or dubbele dactylus.
Only after Drs. P.'s death a couple of years ago , I started writing complete lyrics loosely based on that form.

Hi Gus. I have a faint recollection
of " higgledy piggledy " from my childhood
It went something like this
Higgledy piggledy my son John
went to bed with his trousers on
one shoe off and one shoe on
Higgledy-piggledy my son John.
I guess there will be more
of it somewhere.
Anyhow I did a bit of research and it
seems to have been written by a Billy Milton
in 1948 and a recording was issued although
I can't find an audio of it. It was seeing your
mentioning of higgledy piggledy that sparked
me off to look. Memories.

I was aware of the poem/lyrics you mentioned. But this is something else.
I didn’t invent the kind of higgeldy piggeldy I was referring to, but was relativelyclose to the light verse writer in the Netherlands, who introduced the verse form over here in the first place. In Dutch it’s called olleke bolleke. In both English and Dutch, if the emphasis is placed on syllable 1 and 4, it reads like a waltz.
I’ve made hundreds of lyrics based on very free interpretations of the olleke bolleke. Only after Drs. P’s death I turned to more or less ‘true to form’ verse forms.
This one is build/built up of three hp’s. I took some freedom where the accents are concerned. I believe I have the right. As far as I know, neither the English nor the Dutch masters ever set their HP to music.
I like it a lot that you’ve dived into this. In both England and the Netherlands poetry (and this one too) is very popular. Maybe I can seduce you to try and write one yourself.
