My Mermaid

I love sitting here on the shore listening to the crashing waves
Watching with a little clarity as the fog rolls in, as if riding the waves
I watch with the patience of a hunter for a connection grave to grave
As the fog slowly lifts, a vision of you made me feel as if I was saved

I was so far down in the depths when you reached down for my hand
A life line was grasped, with buoyant light giving life saving commands
Ever so slowly allowed to decompresses as I was steadily risen
The air that you breathed into my lungs was life giving

As I rose to the surface, your light entered my darkness more and more
I felt myself separating with pain, yes I felt as we tore
It's hard to know how deep we were, maybe as deep as the ocean floor
We're so entwined pain brought depression and painted my very core

But you could see below the depths deciding on a last chance rescue
The last second of the minute and breath, and you were right on cue
With your eyes serving as beacons, there's no need for speaking
The light that you're emitting reaches my core, pain seeking

As I rise a weight is lifted, suddenly blame is shifted
With you holding my hand, I felt a connection that was gifted
As I broke the surface, you wrapped me in the warmth of your embrace
As you continued to resuscitate, giving warmth and blowing on my face

You swam me back and deposited me here on this beach
And now I love these shores, simply knowing that you're within reach
Has me sitting here listening to the music of crashing waves played
As I while away hour upon hour in anticipation of My Little Mermaid
