Obstinance can be a survival trait in some respects. What you've described here are the OTHER aspects of the trait! The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and people often carry the baggage of delusional persecution around with them. Add these elements together and you get something resembling the current political landscape lol

It's all about perception, I guess. I mean some people can convince themselves they are sooo right & to hell with everyone else! I like your observations.
