Well, I'd say try some LSD, but that's bad advice.  Lol.

In a way,when thinking about "what if's" and such, when going through scenarios in our heads, etc, that's a bit of make believe.  Yes?  
Maybe I mean imagination more so than a make believe sense.  
As writers, we are creating something from literal thin air, so to speak. So it's all the same realm, just some is more extreme thinking.  
Like dreams, I suppose.  Especially daydreams.   They help us cope.  

It's like when you buy a lotto ticket and when you get your ticket you have this brief moment of hope ... Then the numbers are called and you're poor like everybody else.. at least you have company
