Plenilunium

Hang, vines, hang and dangle your grapes and hops
And grow gold with the rising August moon
Who shows mankind the glory of the night
With her leaf gilding beams on maple tops,
Shining for kings and the common poltroon
An egalitarian measure of light!

Gleam, glossy leaf, and whisper to the trees
About your midnight sovereign's spectral grace
Pursuing you from the heavens above
And through the prismatic clouds and breeze,
Which Mother Earth keeps in their place,
For the purposes of romance and love!

Then think, lovers, of summer's amber lamp
Illuminating your midnight embrace
And stoking passion at every turn
In every city and every camp
And every soul in the whole human race
Subject to Luna's lusty return...

Which she does in her roundabout way
Rolling like lovers in midsummer hay!
