Is it my look,
Is it my age,
Is it my status,
Is it my race,
Is it my ethnicity,
Is it my nationality,
Is it my vulnerability,
Is it my appearance,
Is it my dress,
Is it my faith,
Is it my belief,
Why am I abused,
Why am I tortured,
Why am I raped,
Why am I killed,
Why, in a tragedy,
My head spins,
My mind answers,
A chauvinistic man,
Man’s dominance,
His savage lust,
What is my escape,
I stand up against rape,
I call to stop the rape,
No more victims of rape.

Author's Note
I wrote this poem to support my friend who was innocently raped. I tried to write her feelings that can be inspiring for her. She can be a silent torch bearer against it.

I think this was a really beautiful tribute to your sweet friend. I'm sorry she went through that.
The opening was really perfect, as it shows the myriad ways victims are usually blamed for the crimes committed against them. Then the middle downward-why-spiral was perfect.
I hope you showed this to her. It's important.

Thank you for writing this in support of your friend, and in order to empathise with women. There is NO excuse for rape in any circumstances, and the sooner we stop victim-blaming, the better. This is a powerful piece.

Sadly a common thing. Many of the women I know have experienced sexual abuse at some point in their lives. Important to give her positive support. It sounds like you do.
