cocaine dreams

I dreamed about a girl
overdosing on cocaine  
I only know one person  
who does cocaine  
and he's not a skinny
teenage girl  
 
She was barely breathing
when I found her  
and maybe she would have died
if I hadn't  
but it was just a dream  
about someone I don't know
and couldn't help anyway
 
I've seen a lot of things
in my life
and I've overdosed once
on a cocktail
of alcohol and drugs  
but I've been lucky enough
to see nothing worse  
than one of my friends
green out on weed  
though watching an ex
get the heroin nods
and throw up out the window
wasn't something  
I'd want to relive on the daily
 
But I've never seen any OD
and I don't know why  
I'm dreaming about it  
 
Though one of my friends  
was drugged a week ago
by her boyfriend  
and left in a bush  
to find her own way out
when she could regain  
the ability to walk  
 
So maybe I'm dreaming of her
with a different face  
worried about her dubious decision
to stay with a guy  
who doses her and ditches her  
with no safe way  
for her to get home
