never satisfied

I've been seeking peace for so long
But there is no peace in this world
From the top to the bottom
They claim it comes from within
But that doesn't stop the ugly nature
That's so rooted in humanity

We judge the lion for eating the young
Adélie Penguins for the way they simply exist
Are horrified by truth about dolphins and otters
But we shrug at the sheer amount of our own violence
Consuming true crime content eagerly
Hours and hours listening to graphic detailed retailings of the most Terrible acts
Humans harming humans really brings no true response anymore
how strange it is that we're so bored with our own gore
We don't blink at visions of dead kids on TV
Or even wince at the detailed descriptions of rape
We've numbed our brains to our existence, haven't we?
Locking our doors as if it protects us from harm
Buying weapons as it it could prevent anything

There's no horror for the actions of organized religion
Religious people screaming in hate and victim hood
How easily we forget the hundreds of children's bones
Buried with no love underneath the churches foundation
How many kids have we sacrificed for those who speak of holiness
All shades, all ages, don't look away
Humanity is hideous in it's chosen ignorance

We're so shocked by a war in "peaceful Europe"
Lands from which mass colonization originated
How different our world would've been without Rome and the British...
Would we have had peace if we'd never left our origins?
Would we have found peace of we'd just chosen simplicity?
No, we never would have been satisfied
We're predators and killing and harm is part of us
We can't fix the problem if so many people profit from violence
I can't seem to look away from the horror
And how humanity will never be satisfied

Author's Note
I'm so tired of people pretending humanity will ever lose our violence. We can't even acknowledge the past... We'll never survive to see the future on our current course
