chicken vegie soup
I woke up with a cold
cough, snot, the works
the open window in the lounge
sending me into a sneezing fit
Today's the kinda day
where I eat two day old pizza
for breakfast
and pretend like it has
some kind of nutritional value
cause I can't be arsed cooking anything
and I'm out of milk
which means black coffee
and no cereal
I spend half the day on the couch
watching kids shows
and reading books to my toddler
who seems to have enough energy
for the both of us
Today he subsits on hommus
potato crisps and bits of pear
not that he's complaining
they're three of his favourite things
If I could exist on so little I would
but 2pm comes around
and my stomach is talking to me
my brain kind of annoyed my fridge
isn't stocked with never ending pizza
The pantry calls and hands me a tin
of creamed corn
like it knows what I need
in these days of a stuffy nose
and headaches
I use up the left over vegies
in the fridge that aren't looking so great
defrost some chicken
and chuck everything in a pot
like cooking a warm hug
on a cold day
Except there's enough soup
to last me two days
and ensure I eat
when the only energy I'll have tomorrow
involves boiling a kettle for coffee
and microwaving soup
that'll make me forget for a second
that I'm sick
