Image for the poem Delilah

Delilah

I closed my eyes and saw you standing there,
in the stillness of my thoughts
peering into my soul
with a thoughtful look on your face

I gaze into your heart fearing
you hate the beauty of my being
my gentleness struck you as odd
my awkwardness ugly to your cold

with my natural grace I touch you
you flinch and pull away
then I peer inside you
and saw my thoughts arranged in a calculating fashion
my unruly passions displayed in a strange manner
placed this way they were proof to you I was conniving
within my innocence guilty

still, I love you unconditionally
as you cut soul from ego
staring in a detached state
at the secrets I kept
and the hurt I covered

then your eyes open
and you knew you loved me
