Janis’ voice was the sound of the soul
Like poetry of tragedy and heartache
She seemed to express it so perfectly
Whether you call it the blues, or rock ‘n roll

It was something that was so poignant
It just spoke to us
To lovers of music
To people from different walks of life

And as I learned more
It spoke to me in such a way
I couldn’t fully comprehend then
But I can certainly appreciate it more now
