A CAREGIVER'S FATIGUE
When we're wearing the fatigues of a caregiver
No matter the need, we gotta stand and deliver
Givers may timber without prescribers for self care
Even healers must remember to let down our hair
Some will declare war against us when they hear NO
Regardless of their anger, remember who runs the show
Know that nobody knows your weariness more than you
If you run yourself into the grave, then what will they do?
You must take a knee when your fatigue gets heavy
Allow no one to guilt trip you like you are a Chevy
Stand your ground firmly whenever you need some rest
We're super dooper troopers but there's no S on our chests
I must confess that I've learned this through trial and error
Now I invest in my rest and my vision couldn't be more clearer
I'm a giver, an inspirer, and writer but not super human
Doing all that I can as a man to not bust like a hymen
Slowing the rate of the date displayed after the hyphen
It'd be too late to see my mistakes once I've reached the end
We can only bend but so far before our star begins to dim
Descending into the ocean; but no longer able to swim
