A lifetime
Of waiting
To hear
All the truth,
Quietly
Dining
Right here
In the booth,
As if
Everything
Just revolved
Around me
Because all
Of your silence
Was "balanced
And free."
Never
Clear thinking
The reasons
You're quiet,
The ghosts
Of your past
Are your
Steady diet.
A lifetime

Author's Note
When we ask for intimacy and our partners can't respond, we often take it as rejection, as if their pain is inconsequential and everything is about meeting our needs and desires. Maybe they are not rejecting us but rather denying themselves for reasons of their own. Why else would someone shut down emotionally and become emotionally available? If they are with you, trust that. If they are behind a barrier wall of silence and insecurity, see it for what it is....self-protection through self-punishment. Because of course, it's irrational....it's suffering.
