Perpetual Pugilist - Second Fight
In spite of cacophony
from humanity packed arena
loneliness pervading
completely lost without my trainer
promoter, trying to fill the void,
provided a replacement
one, though in my corner stood
made clear, as in the ashen fable,
they preferred fighters from their stable
constantly disparaging
memory of his former coach
betting against him every round
destroying confidence with reproach
shaking head as blows resound
persuading me to take a dive
If I wanted to survive.
promoter meekly looking on
fearing vitriolic reprisal
withholding precious moral support
securing their survival.
