Amongst The Quiet Of A Moorland Peace
Amongst the quiet of our moorland peace,
In the misty still softness, therein found;
There is, over eeriness, heard a sound,
A feint cantata of sonant release.
No lamb of god draped in her woollen fleece,
No canine whimper of a monster hound;
Nor subterranean creature underground
But a haunting luring, that fails to cease.
A moorland siren so sweetly voicing,
Singing, heavenly ~ outright, loud and clear
Filling daytime waves with a tender song.
Of sweet resonance, wide and rejoicing,
Floating gracefully in the wind out here.
So content, leave me placed where I belong.

This is beautifully written. Extremely soothing in thought and creates a peaceful and soulful mindset. Really lovely imagery. H🌷

Thank you for visiting in my moorland peace Honoria. This poem I consider to be a Petrarchan sonnet with the volta (or turn) at line 9.
I am pleased that you enjoyed and hope that it brought you peaceful thoughts.
Kind regards, Alan

The classic feel to this gives the poem a very Shakespearean flavour to the lilt of the poem. For a poem set on the romance of the moors, it works very well for this type of poem.
I’m head over heels in love with the moorland around here and spend a lot of my time out there, so I can relate so well to the sweeping desolation and romance that the backdrop can provide.
Thank you for sharing this, it’s beautiful.

Hi Northern Soul. This poem is inspired by the moors surrounding my home in Holmfirth, Yorkshire. I hope that you enjoyed your visit there,

Re: Re. Amongst The Quiet Of A Moorland Peace
Then, here is a short 'local' poem I wrote for our family history portfolio, NS, as I have family connections from Saddleworth, mainly from Delph.
THE STILL O'ER VALLEY AND HILL
There's peace on the hillside
This sweet summer's day
And peace in the churchyard
O'er Saddleworth way.
There's silence and solace
And time to one's self
And vista a-plenty
Set out over Delph.
At large in the landscape,
Midst meadows and lanes,
There's peace in the bethel
Where reverence remains.
There's peace in the hills then,
When all's done and said,
There's peace in the valley,
The mills are all dead.
THE STILL O'ER VALLEY AND HILL
There's peace on the hillside
This sweet summer's day
And peace in the churchyard
O'er Saddleworth way.
There's silence and solace
And time to one's self
And vista a-plenty
Set out over Delph.
At large in the landscape,
Midst meadows and lanes,
There's peace in the bethel
Where reverence remains.
There's peace in the hills then,
When all's done and said,
There's peace in the valley,
The mills are all dead.

It is quite easy to write about a place you love, SO. The Brontë sisters lived close by here and the inspiration for 'Wuthering Heights' still exists, though now just a ruined farmhouse (featured on You tube, I believe). Sylvia Plath also lived close by and rests in a picturesque churchyard here (I have a poem for her somewhere on DUP). 'Northern_Soul' (above), I have learned, composes her work a dozen miles or so across the bleak but beautiful moor to the west of me.
So, the moorland peace really is something quite special. I am, as always, delighted that you enjoy my efforts - call in anytime, it is great to hear from you. Kind regards, Alan
