Only a thousand
Ships set sail
To find
That face
Of one,
Yet, how many lands
Were found
At sea
As volcanoes
Eclipsed the sun?
Activities
That islands made
As magma
Pierced
The sky,
Left lava flows
That made new land
Each stage
From earth
To eye.

I'm so caught up in the visual and feeling that this evokes in me...I first thought of war, because of Helen of Troy coming to mind... then I read your themes and figured I was way way off... per my usual, I suppose!
It's a beautiful poem, regardless of my failed attempts at understanding the original intent...
Your pen is quick, mighty and incredibly powerful. I know the words just spill out for you, yet it's always a marvel to comprehend that talented ease.

You are correct...I was comparing Helen with the subject, who was volcanic and created entire islands....
Helen is a favorite of mine.....there are several past poems about her...
One concerning her return to her husband following her time with Paris....
