June Bug

Among fair faces lit lightly in dusk
Small flitting figures feel out the dust
Swarm, feather, brethren in
The summer weather
Patterned and painted, mimicry evaluation
Collection of tungsten, heated filament
Like rose petals, furl around
The swathed lamppost, haloed ground
A dance, frenzied, seeking the sun
Circadian rhythm finds its love
Embellished, fleeting, heat-hot quick-touch
In reverent shade, quick tempered sly hush,
A grin, a smile, a collection, a wreath
Insect wings peeled to reveal beneath
The letter of a starry knight
Delivered to his maiden right:
Lepidoptera, her heart fluttered,
In the crepuscular warmth of June

“Meet me my sweet on the solstice soon”
