Small Town Syndrome
i would rather be homeless
than live again in that town
i would rather you keep
your compliments to yourself
if it comes with that price
i don’t want your help
just because you’re nice
doesn’t mean you mean well

Hard lessons for a naïve girl to learn; predators often come disguised.

Certain places you don't feel welcome...my brother just bought a place down the road in Lawton

A shame, it was my hometown where I felt unwelcome. Hopefully your brother settles in!

Michigan. Went to Detroit once, 91, saw some punk, bought some Phillip K. Dick paperbacks at Goodwill. Visited Ann Arbor in 92, rode a train from New Orleans to visit a classmate from high school. Knew a woman named Tammy D. from the Detroit area, 94, met her on the Blackfoot reservation in Wash then she married her ex and had a baby girl which means I have a blood relative from there. I hope she is prospering. Sole extent of my experience with Michigan. I vastly prefer the Deep South myself.

Thanks for sharing your early 90's adventures in MI, Em-ily. North country girl myself, but it seems rural America leans toward the deceptive red, no matter what direction you run.
