Fire and Rain

We're drowning
but I can't let go
I'm like a necromancer
with my hands in the past
and my heart in the future

We can't resurrect what's gone

There is value in what was
but you don't talk in my currency anymore
and I'm not afraid of being alone

We can't resurrect what's gone

Gold coins turn to brass
brass turns to ashes
and I'm tired of trying to find the fire
that's gone out

We can't resurrect what's gone

We aren't who we say we are
I'm just a pale echo of brighest the star
you claimed to see
and you're fire's been out so long
the only things still smoking
are yesterdays
when that spark was something precious

We can't resurrect what's gone

We're drowning
but I can't let go

I wish you'd let me go

We can't resurrect what's gone
