papier-mâché
the struggles of a poem rising
"Courage is feeling your soul go through a paper shredder and knowing
that the paper mâché that God will build out of your scraps will be more
beautiful than what you had before." Author unknown
this poem:
bits and pieces
of my wry vernacular;
intuitive words
worn torn in half
to fit the circumstances
that daily entangle
and strangle me.
stark crisscross lines
adrift with prime rhyme
left bereft of reason
sketch verbal treason
on every page
where vents my cage rage.
choked-up verses
silence curses,
by way of saying
ought for nought;
oenomatopeic dreams
in pillow fights
scatter my feathers
deep into the tight night;
old worn-out words
whose threadbare songs
their congress shapes,
fresh papier-mâché
abundance
on every rushed-up
crushed-up page.
paper pulp,
taut nerves on fire:
every gulp
of wild desire.
somewhere
in there,
my broken soul releases.
