black & white

"Life etches itself onto our faces as we grow older, showing our violence,
excesses or kindnesses."—Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606-1669)

i
my brand
is rembrandt
as darkness kisses light
glimpses
of princes
destined to wing their flight

ii
where'er
the frontier
of living bleeds dark ink
cheerful
where fearful
men dangle on the brink

iii
brandt-patch
the night watch
of facial features keep
where shades
of light suedes
chiaroscuro steep

iv
edges
images
of hope
my lens may blur
clever
endeavour
faith's crib, tho, may yet stir

v
my dreams
so it seems
unfold in black and white
unwise
compromise
does not wrong things make right

vi
cover
me over
ebon and ivory
mangled
triangles
make crowns of victory
