silent river

"There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river.
We need to go upstream and find out why they're falling in."—Desmond Tutu.

so easily
     you pull me in,
            calm, cool, calculated;
                  so greedily
                        you make me sin,
                              damn fool, captivated.

                                    and yet you spare me
                              not one glance,
                        altho so nearly
                  i would dance
            the path you swiftly glide,
      where, naked, all my pride

prostrate to touch your
      velvet skin,
            content to conjure
                  from within
                        apostrophes,
                              catastrophes,

                                    and all the vain
                              things that i crave.
                        into your depth
                  i might have leapt:
            how i disdain
      my silent grave!
