Tears and Sweaters

Emotions are a sweater
pull one thread  
and your life unravels
coming apart at the seams
each loose yarn
a memory
cherished and dear
 
oh, the funny looks
as I wear my ratty sweater
with friends all offering help
"can I buy you a new sweater?"
"do you need any money?"
 
I love my friends
as they love me
but no one wants to hug me
when I'm contented and warm  
inside my ragtag sweater
 
should I seek help
from sweaters anonymous  
when I'm looking like a homeless ewe
yet I will not give up my memories
for all the wool in New Zealand
they make me laugh and cry
and also make me wiser
 
if only there were a dating service
for people wearing sweaters
that were unafraid  
to give me hugs
as I wear the loose threads of my life
