Image for the poem stunted roots & walkin

stunted roots & walkin' boots

With a devastating
sway of hips
she broke all the rules
beautiful beneath
apocalyptic skies

her hair was
the color of october
autumn leaves fallen
quiet rain clouds slumbered
in the gray of her eyes

if this were a love poem
I'd tell you
that the faeries
graced her cheeks
with kisses...

but her boots were
much too comfortable for that
