My sweet caress; surrounds emptiness.
There is nothingness.
But I never would love you less
My darling, my sweet caress.
Whatever happened to that eternity—
That delicate existence, so free?
I can only cry a lullaby—
Sing myself softly into sleep
Where in dreams I only weep
To waken with the tears in my eyes—
Yes dear, I only shed our lullabies.
And who is to say what is black or white?
Who is to say there is darkness as well as light?
I see neither now. I see only your memory
And every future I held in fantasy—
Dust now between my fingers in the depths
Where I sleepwalk into my footsteps—
Leading back to what I swore was forever
Delicate…as delicate as a feather
On the wind that lingers upon the hill
Where I hope to see you standing still—
At the crown of that hill…
Where I hope to see you standing in wait
For the tides of eternity that were our fate
My darling, my sweet caress
Restless here in the loneliness.
