A Disconnect
We expose our porcelain whites
To cover the hurt inside
Flash it around the streets
So they know we are free
While we are chained
By a small fee
We expose it with a little help
From alcohol and opiods
Blue screens and amphetamines
They help us put a brave face
That doesn't budge when punched
But inside the soul collects dust
Never to be what it once was
Never to be what it once hoped
Spirit failed to tether flesh and soul
To bring them together; to symbiote
Now the soul sits somewhere
At a small corner of time
Waiting, for the flesh to die.
To cover the hurt inside
Flash it around the streets
So they know we are free
While we are chained
By a small fee
We expose it with a little help
From alcohol and opiods
Blue screens and amphetamines
They help us put a brave face
That doesn't budge when punched
But inside the soul collects dust
Never to be what it once was
Never to be what it once hoped
Spirit failed to tether flesh and soul
To bring them together; to symbiote
Now the soul sits somewhere
At a small corner of time
Waiting, for the flesh to die.
