Six in the Morning

Swallows, half covered by blankets
Highlighted by the morning sun
I could I almost hear them singing
As your chest rose and fell

Coffee scent drifted in
The radio alarm disturbed the scene
Of your unusually still form
And soft expression

Loud yawns and superman stretches
Scared the cat, and made us laugh
Now the room feels quiet and empty
An unwelcoming former haven

I think of you on cold mornings
Shivering, and snuggled up to me
We'd be each other's warmth
We were each other's worlds, then

Sleepy green eyes and lazy smiles
Frequent my thoughts, and my dreams
Sometimes I wake and still expect
To tease you about your bed head

Now, it's getting increasingly hard
To get up and face the day
When all that greets me
Is spoiled milk and a moping cat
