Grecian Tragedies

Grecian Tragedies

We drag around
our memories
like teddy bears
of stone;

they cut a groove
behind us
as we work
so all alone.

The rocks
of sadness
line our path
With expectations' loss,

while disappointment
weighs us down
and whips us
like a boss.

And those who might
feel love
for us
can only hope the best

as in a Grecian tragedy
our reach
still dreams
of rest.

Then one day
we find ourselves
just fallen
in a pool,

and see ourselves
for who we are,
unraveled
as a spool.

The culprit
of our misery
just stares us
in the face,

and every song
we longed to hear
begins to fill
the place.

We've left no room
to be admired
for lack
of being us,

and pushed the light
so far away
we couldn't see
to trust.

And in the darkness
of desire
we'd set
a lonesome tone

and blocked ourselves
from love's sweet touch
with teddy bears
of stone.
