Matt
for a moment may i bend your ear
tell you a tale
not really a faerie tale
more of today and the real.
it all starts three days ago
along with a rude email.
family stuff about furniture and its storage
but i will spare you all the detail.
yet for the sake of the story and lineage
background is needed, not much, so don't worry.
i have a father, who is not well
i have a step mother, who can be quite a pill
and a half brother, who is in search of free will.
that is the back story.
so from the email, you must know
or have surmised
a journey, a visit, furniture gathering and so i must go.
the rear of the truck and the door is shut, now all loaded...
and standing on the porch
my step mother and me...
finding words, simple talk, reasons to agree.
all things covid and such
i knew a visit to my father, i would be out of luck.
but i asked of his well fare,
she replied, "dying slowly"
my gut feeling was... this was rather lonely.
i knew things could not be that great
for my birthday had passed, for all my years
he always said hey, and sometimes he was often late.
i would chuckle cuz i knew he was always fishing for my birthday's actual date.
time was ticking on the porch
knowing the road was definitely calling.
in passing and saying my good bye.
i mentioned my half brother
said i hadn't spoken to him, in the bye and bye.
i was waiting on an answer
looking at the open truck's door,
and she said...
oh, did you hear about Matt?
in anticipation to hear...
for he was always searching,
in hope his life to him would be revealed.
just for that moment that he might steal.
she said emotionless
"in september,
he killed himself
he hung himself
i think he was depressed."
i listened, what did i just hear,
i said to myself...
it is now november...
