I hope you don't mind me sharing an honest opinion. I feel like the choice of word usage for the last word in the poem ruins the poem. Otherwise the poem has great potential.

All honest opinion are always welcomed. This thought is based upon my addiction recovery. There are times when such a statement is needed to remind myself to treat others with respect regardless of their deserving of that respect. An on going, life long battle that individuals in recovery face. Hope this clarifies the intent. Have to keep it real in recovery.

I have to admit I have limit experience with addiction but I have heard before that addiction effects a person's ability to respect or not. I heartily agree with you that all people deserve respect even when they don't deserve it if that makes sense.

Thank you, William. Addiction effects all aspects of an individual functioning-physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually, this recovery must address these deficits in order to remain sober. Hope this clarifies the process.

yes it does, thankyou very much. It so sounds like quite a struggle to have to go through something of that nature.

No one beats death in the end, buts addiction can rush the addict to a way to early demise. I've seen too many overdoses the past couple of years.

That is very sad. It is a travesty whenever a life goes to waste. In a way every life is its own written or unwritten poem with the potential to be a masterpiece.

Today I will not shut people out, today I will not ignore their pain, today I will treat others as I want to be treated. Today I will not be an asshole. A perfect poem and affirmation to begin the day.
