today I said goodnight to the mountains,
shook hands with pastures,
let cold mouths of tired goats
touch upon my bright bones,
let blindness lead,
succumbed to deary, gay-lit light,
wrote chapters of spring
dressed in entertaining black,
got schooled by nature,
visited her high, invalid eyes
heavy on the skirts of a God-filled town,
gathered in a soft, scattered shawl
and fetched lichen, soft rolls,
impatient, delicate seeds,
carried them home in dyed, barrel-size pockets
to dress a well rested street.
