Hands of leaves
Another Oak October
is soon to pass
but not before
I hear the calling
of my documentary tree
With brown leaves
and venation patterns
Veins so akin
like my ancestors hands
resembling the shade
of time evolved skin
as I walk by these
brown hands of leaves
being pulled by
Autumn breath
in a hurry to follow
my destination
A melody of leaves
form a cape
behind me
careful not to
touch ground
not yet
This family of strangers
ready to catch
me if I stumble
not letting
me tumble
Ready to slip
into my hand
and pull me
towards a smarter
wiser path
Mimicking the
sound of
clapping hands
behind and
beside me
pointing and all the
while knowing
These brown leaves
of hands also
like clocks
reminding me
we only are
here for so long
before we wither
and the ground
decides to drink us in
is soon to pass
but not before
I hear the calling
of my documentary tree
With brown leaves
and venation patterns
Veins so akin
like my ancestors hands
resembling the shade
of time evolved skin
as I walk by these
brown hands of leaves

Nicely penned ... the short lines sustain the cadence ... know what you mean ... loads to do ...

Hey Mystic!!
Me too. LOL
I actually looked up a diagram of a leaf. Nothing wrong with a
little self taught education. Too many heavy hitters when it comes to words on this website:)

Dear A,
Absolutely love the metaphor of the leaf and hand and phases of the lifecycle. I remember my grandparents hands and how hard working and then visualizing how beautiful a fallen leaf is. And then how each moment should be treasured as we only get so many of them. So many lovely things to think of and appreciate in this poem. For me there was a wonderful undercurrent of support through family and moreover nature. Beautiful write.

Awh thanks Honoria!!!
You captured everything I wanted to convey in this poem with your comment. Always great to hear your point of view on my stuff.
I was walking around at work in our courtyard outside. Lots of brown leaves everywhere and they looked like my hands. I got inspired and wanted to also acknowledge how important my family is. Even my grandparents who have long passed.
Thanks again for your awesome words!!

I really love what Honoria and Cipher said. And I love autumn so I find this poem so beautiful with the leaf metaphor. It is a busy month and one of my favorite holidays, Halloween. The cooling weather is long awaited for me. You are awesome and I always love your writing. It's so uniquely you! and that's beautiful.

Awh thanks Kristina!!
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays!! We like to watch scary movies with our boys and end up keeping the chocolate candy for ourselves. LOL Time to take my sweaters to the cleaners and clean out my summer wardrobe.
Thanks for the uniquely you comment - even the beautiful. I will take it where I can get it. LOL
Thanks for stopping by lovely!!

Hello , Adelphina ;
This is a very well written poem ;
You convey the season well , and your description of a "Cape Of Leaves" is wonderful...
However , *this* hit me even more :
"documentary tree"
Very well phrased...;)
