Things that work

Things that work

My arms were made for loving, designed to hug you tight, to comfort and protect you, to make the wrong seem right

To hold you securely if you're frightened by the dark, to ignite a night of passion, they can also be that spark

On the end of my arms are gadgets, designed to entwine with yours, fingers mingled in lovers knots, as my hand slides into yours

Arms long enough to reach anywhere, they take my hands to every curve, they can also bring you dinner, their Queen they live to serve

When they run across you skin, my hands stop at your beating heart, so I can memorise its rhythm, for when we are apart

Designed to bring you flowers, or chocolates to your door, to hug you hello or to say goodbye, you can feel they ache for more

Feeling you so close to me, I'm thankful for the use of hands and arms, without them I couldn't write you poetry, about your loving charms

So though I might be broken and you are so far away, I'd give all a broken poet can give, to love you every day
