Mama's Old Recipe

tangled in a spinning wheel
this yarn has been spun
shards from a kaleidoscope
 cascading in the sun.

misty water-color  memories,
of black velvet clouds
and Grandma's old recipe

shades of autumn flow
with whimsical thoughts
of cinnamon and almonds

the smell of charred hickory
and Grandma's old recipe

wild mountain honey drips
down the side of a cypress tree
cool spring waters dribbling
from a brook that's babbling

cedar chips tossed on the fire
blazing hot, with hell's desire
moonshine on the mind,
and Grandma's old recipe

bootlegers, and belladonna,
and ballad being sang off key
Kentucky sipping whiskey
making me so blind I can't see

after a swig of
 Grandma's old recipe

Author's Note
This is just a fun observational poem, about life down south...I grew up in Detroit but I used to visit Kentucky a lot when I was a boy...This is just a fun bit of whimsy
