I woke up at 1:30 in the morning
And had to force myself not to check for a text from you
I had to force myself to lay in bed and try to sleep
Though sleep didn’t come
I had to force myself not to think of you
And what you might be doing right now

Dear AJ,
How well I know this game. Although truth be told it was not texts I would be checking but phone messages. Back in the Pleistocene Era you could set the land line phone ringer to off and any phone calls would go to the message system. It was a thrill to get them from that certain someone but torture waiting for it to happen. I can really appreciate the excited anticipation and anxiety in your poem. The thrill of it. Wonderful piece. H🌷

I had the older, more reliable party line. I just had to wait for one of the neighbors to tell me what I'd been missing! 😁😂😂
