  Checking out involuntarily
Chasms of space between peaks
Valleys filled with thick underbrush
Virtually impossible
to pass

   Heavily stepping forward
Stumbling, peddling retreats
Headwind breezes pummeling
Weather transforming
suddenly

   Reaching a steep climb base
Eternity round and around
Seemingly naught progress
Burdens unimagined
amass

   Gasping altitudes barricade
Dead-end sheer rock spiked
Lifelines strung haphazardly
Heeling, cursing,
curmudgeonly
