That Didn't Happen

this was a time
we could of got together
to keep each other safe
to realize this is about something greater
we could of looked for more answers
rather than denounce truth
then I wouldn't have to write something
that makes me feel like the odd-man out
talking about freedoms
while I'm talking about help
trying to do my part
to protect from death and sickness
I'm looked at as a weirdo
for wearing a mask
they roll their eyes when I say
I'm vaccinated
is that so awful?
why doesn't my brain work the same?
starting to think I'm in a alternate reality
where we became so self-righteous
that we won't even believe in medical science
even when it's proven to save lives
this could of been a time
when we showed the world we could do this
those we lost would still be alive
to show up at family picnics
people could of done the right thing
and we would be past this
but that didn't happen
