Abstention in Place of Revolt
Exchange of freedom for a velvet bond,
confession to a string of fatal flaws,
a promise to comply and not abscond,
one opening and many closing doors.
Abandonment of facile pleasure’s call,
admission that the long tried search was vain,
that substances have brought the final fall,
a numbing and a sharpening of pain.
Acceptance that maturity were best,
a recognition that lost youth is spent,
to strive in diffèrent ways, not take a rest,
to rise or stabilise, no more descent.
Such is a monumental change of fare,
such is supported psychiatric care.
