Vain Flight

I wanted to escape, and so I ran,
like Poe, I tried to grasp one grain of sand,
I cancelled self with curse and hate and ban,
so once I’d done I’d nothing in my hand.
And now insanity is left behind
my recent históry looms large in sight
denying me what could be peace of mind,
as others’ ease reminds me of my blight.
I need to reinvent my modes of thought
and change myself from what I was before
to calm the things in me that made me fraught
and see if time may heal this weeping sore.
Can will so mend a soul that’s delved such depths
or does one’s consciousness not reach such breadths?
