Grateful
I am grateful but I’m lost
there is an emptiness
unexplained; unexplored
behind doors the size of skyscrapers
salvation rests uneasy, impatient.
the block of lead on my back
folding my shoulders in
rending my arms from me
separating the sinews
that hold them together.
a victim of weakness,
of disparaging influences
completely subdued by the fragile
trigger of the welcoming abyss;
a home far from home.
happiness – a dream short lived
reveals itself to me every night
while the world swallows its pain
to face another day of surprise
I am grateful to be an observer.
