Sustenance

The streets were bare that foggy eve
And darkness held domain.
Aurora's warmth had taken leave
Before the coming rain
And nothing stirred upon the tar
Or midst the alleyways
Where evil lurked with repertoire
Concealed within the haze.

He smelt the iron 'pon the air
Amidst her perfumed scent
As footsteps fell, so unaware
That darkness hid intent
And waited midst the ebon night,
A thirst upon his tongue
Until her form embraced his sight
The moment evil sprung

The shadows watched as crimson flowed
And vibrancy was lost
To feed the need the curse forbode
Oblivious of cost
And silence met her dying sigh
As power met his veins
While angels sang a lullaby
Beneath the Autumn rains.

The streetlights cast a morbid glow
Upon her sallow skin
Where neither blood nor soul bestow
The colors from within
As essence parts with knowledge born
Of darkness and dismay
To tell a tale the coming morn
Of preditor and prey
