Triumph
As I pulled into the park mid-afternoon, I remembered what I had seen on the news, Covid-19 cases had hit a record high in the U.S. I saw the big white tent as I parked and I knew that I was in the right spot. I saw a couple familiar faces in the tent as I walked over. My friend Mike, my other friend Joe, and my wife Lisa. We all had on our masks and it felt very different talking to them now. It had been a little while since we’d seen each other and I was happy to be able to talk to them. We all told each other about what we had been doing so far during our lockdown and how we were keeping ourselves busy. Everyone had their own way of coping and keeping busy. While we were talking some more people arrived, and we ended up with a nice group for our party and cookout. Kids chased each other through sprinklers, the wet grass sticking to their feet. Laughter filled the air as kids splashed each other with water guns and water balloons. However, we first all had to do something before the party started officially. Everyone gathered around the fire pit and Mike lit the fire up. Then we all held hands in a big circle around the fire pit and we stood for a moment of silence. Seeing everyone here, gathered together filled me with happiness, it felt just like old times. Then, we all let go and we brought our hands up to our face to remove our masks. Then we all took off our masks and threw them into the fire. Everyone clapped and cheered, Joe even aimed his gun straight up and filled the air with shotgun bullets in celebration. The party had officially begun. It brought a tear to my eye, seeing such a strong comradery between us. I was so happy that they had joined me to stand up against Covid-19 and the vaccines. Everyone had thought that we were the dumb ones, never wearing our masks, always gathering in big groups, not getting our vaccines, but they would soon regret what they had said. I imagined how in a couple months they would all be under the government's control from the little chips in the vaccine. Everyone would be walking around like mindless zombies doing the government’s every wish and will. But the control would only last for so long, several months later the chips would malfunction, and the zombies would go rogue. They would take over entire cities, and the world would go into Armageddon. But all of us anti-vaxxers wouldn’t be under the government’s control. We would all band together and build a protected town for us to live in. We would gather any weapons we could find to fight the zombies and kill as many as we could everyday. We wouldn’t stop until every last one of those motherfuckers was 6 feet under. I imagined what would happen once we killed all of the zombies. A celebration would be held for all of the anti-vaxxers who helped to save our world. I smiled as I imagined the president shaking our hands and giving each one of us a gold medal for our accomplishments. Then he would declare me the next president. I could just see myself sitting in the president’s office, sitting in my suit in the leather chair. My first order would be to outlaw vaccines entirely and make sure that no one fell to the horror of vaccines ever again. Finally, I shook myself out of my daydream and I was ready to start partying. We all partied and barbecued for the whole evening, it was the most fun I had ever had. Everything felt normal again, even though there was no reason for it ever to not be normal. About 5 days after the party I woke up and had a horrible headache and a raspy cough. It must just be a fever, I thought.
