Wish
Hey little angel
Why are you crying
Breaking the heart of a broken old man?
Lil' one, let me hold your tiny hand
I will dry the tears streaming from your eyes
To brighten your night is my heart's one desire
How do I answer your whispered wish to me?
Hearing your wish and wishing it could be so
What happened to the biological DNA doner
That abandoned you and your older brother?
The warm hug I give you can hardly suffice
for the seed planted in the bottom of my heart
When you said you wanted me to be your daddy
My heart filled with both sorrow and with joy
As I would gladly take on the mantle if it could be
How good it felt to know you felt that way for me
My own life-long wish to be a father embraced
Yet the confusion of how any man can abandon
Children as wonderful as the two of you
What kind of dead beat must he be?
Take my hand and call me whatever you feel
I am here for you angel of happiness
Hugs and cuddles and a place
to let tears dry on my shoulder
And make my shoulders a place
to place your arms around
when you need to be lifted up high
As your smile cheers my spirit into the heavens
From where my heart once went tumbling down
Now the joy you bring renews my faith in real love
