Writer's Block
there was a corner to fill so here it...
Writing poetry is like that
you never know if the next meal
will be satisfying enough
and you're always
looking back over your shoulder
for the words you forgot to
cut up on your plate and eat
I don't mean
the bleeding hearts
you loved me
you left me
all the
now I'm gonna kill myself
material
it's more
the things that are important
that you want to deal with
Little message bearers
things you hope
other human beings can understand
drawing attention to issues
people ought to know about
and maybe
just once in a while
changing the way someone thinks
for good
There's a big difference between
the credible and the incredible
so enter the realms of fantasy
and any message can become quickly lost
The way out of that is
producing something
that's so unreal
so fantastic
that no-one has thought about it
in quite that way before
The best ideas
are the simple ones
so there can never be
a shortage of inspiration
as long as you remember to seize on it
never squandering an opportunity when it's presented
Which is why
writer's block is not caused by lack of focus
or by what to write about
it's caused by fear of not being able to produce
and knowing that the more you improve
the more you raise your own bar

Reading this is almost like staring into my own neurosis about creativity. I always worry that one day I'll simply wake up and the words will be gone. Very observant piece.

nice poem, which reminded me of the ones people write in therapeutic groups to increase their creativity and writing skills. i like three last lines the most - i thought about writer's blocks from different perspectives: well, had to research it. but have never thought about this point of view: so simple and so true. good job
