Anniversary, a time to reassess.
The first was new and exciting,
As we began our journey together.
The second we were still discovering,
Finding out what makes each other tick.
The third more settled, routine,
But love still in its prime.
The fourth was fair, full of care,
The love still very much there.
The fifth much the same as before,
The love boat steered calmly on.
The sixth brought heartache and joy,
A miscarriage, then a four legged friend.
The seventh brought calm back again,
No seven year itch for this couple.
The eighth came with a bundle of happiness,
In the form of our beautiful daughter.
The ninth was fun and laughter,
As we bonded with our child.
The tenth and more happiness,
Our gorgeous son completes the family.
The eleventh love is still there,
Just buried under our young brood.
The twelfth our life journey continued,
Steady and straight on a calm mill pond.
The thirteenth, not unlucky for us,
Tears as our first born starts school.
The fourteenth is a little hazy,
Full of routine, spontaneity now gone.
The fifteenth through to the twentieth,
Flew by on the wings of a bird.
The twenty-first the children have grown,
No longer babies but teenagers and hormones.
The twenty-second the waters became choppy,
We had grown to comfortable, took each for granted,
The twenty-third arrived with storm clouds in tow,
Mistrust attacks the foundations of marriage.
The twenty-four and decisions to be made,
Is our journey together now over and done?
So what now, what’s in store,
Does the future hold our happy ending,
The twenty-fifth, I wonder will I write this next verse?!
As we began our journey together.
