'Tis All for the Best; ( Villanelle )
( After W. H. Auden )
I would say nothing like I told you so *,
Despite knowing the course your choices take;
Because I cannot interfere, you know.
Tis pointless inventorying your escrow:
Aware of outcomes, before it's too late;
'Tis all for the best; it ensures your growth.
There is no future that isn't malleable,
No nightmare exists, which you cannot wake;
Because I cannot interfere, you know.
The signs are there, in the spiritual world,
Glints of light, whispers, nudges as you play;
'Tis all for the best; it ensures your growth.
It won't be easy, learning on your own;
You will surely fall hard along the way;
Because I cannot interfere, you know.
This life is your personal freewill zone
Any mistake is not your final fate;
Because I cannot interfere, you know;
'Tis all for the best; it ensures your growth.

We all make mistakes it how we learn from them that defines us. Keep on writing.

I tend to learn things the hard way, but I find inspiration in your lines. We have to keep things in perspective: “Any mistake is not your final fate.”

Nope; it's simply a lesson, that's all! Also heralds change ( if we opt to learn from the lesson, that is ). Thank you, Audrey. Much appreciated.

Dear A,
You’ve written “finest” before but this one is the shiniest finest. I love the tone set by the heroine/angel gently guiding the reader to see their potential and growth life lessons. Beautiful piece. H🌷

Good villanelle - they're so hard to do well. I like the positive messaging in this & Auden's a fine inspiration.

Hey Hey, Stranger! Nice to see you back around these parts. Yeah, forms give me a run for my money; however, they also push me out of my comfort zone and remind me to appreciate the poets who paved those paths.

* checks to see who wrote the inspiration poem this time *
"Time will say nothing but I told you so." says Auden, and that right there sums his up as being about making mistakes. And there is the possibility of these mistakes repeating. I've noticed about his that in describing Time, he puts an emphasis on it being cyclical or seasonal with his mention of leaves decaying and roses growing. This returning aspect is subtley reinforced by the repetativeness of the villenlle form. Meanwhile, the rest of his poem is bit overly ambiguous for my taste.
Which is why I find yours to be more compelling; it has a more consistent message. i also found your use of asterisk intriguing, not because it linked to your notes, but because it has that effect of a built in disclaimer!

“It won't be easy, learning on your own;

a painful reality at times..
but understandably necessary
.. there are bandages in my cabinet
SMOKE!

I think the most difficult, yet the most beneficial thing we can do ( especially regarding those we love ) is to allow them to learn through their own mistakes.
Thank you, OG! Much appreciated.

Hey Ahavati…….wow were you ever inspired……luv this as always…….sometimes we make mistakes more than once…….there’s lesson every time…….you would think the same mistake wouldn’t be repeated bbbuuuttt…….they are……for me anyway……I understand the “spiritual world” a bit as I can feel and see within it…..I take my knowing for granted at times though……anyway……outstanding ink…….purple luv & hugs xo :)

It's a great poem, Ahavati. God is the escrow holder. He cannot interfere, but despite our sins and mistakes, things are going perfectly well. I love it. It is full of optimism and happiness. For me it is very refined poetry.

Thank you, JZ! I truly appreciate your perspective. It's heartening to know it uplifted you.
Re. 'Tis All for the Best; ( Villanelle )
This seems very resigned advice to a grandchild, perhaps, letting someone make their own mistakes, it has the restrained language style of Auden, I just read his poem, Villianelle and liked it. I heard a couple interesting quotes about him, one that he only says what he means, and another that he wrote on paper that had been covered in his tears which had dried. I'm still working on something :)

I love your intuition, PR! My Grandprecious is EXACTLY who I had in mind when writing this. It's imperative to allow children to make mistakes and learn from them. It's especially difficult for grandparents to allow grandchildren to make mistakes because, as grandparents, we've pretty much learned where we screwed up raising our own, so this do-over provides us an opportunity, albeit that opportunity is rough in the allowing part.
The beautiful thing about studying classic poets is the priceless wisdom and knowledge you garner from them. Can't wait to see your offerings for this month.

The voice of this poem is very strong. It really feels like that of an omnipotent-seeming elder talking to a younger person.

Thank you, Jack. I had my grandprecious in mind when writing this. I don't know about omnipotent but I am an elder - a proud crone, as a matter of fact! xo

Events will wok out, maybe not the way we want them to work out, but they will work out. The universe is funny that way.

It has the wisdom and sound advice everyone should listen to, but you know how sometimes for some, it goes one ear and out the other (especially when I was younger)
It's a wonderful piece Ahavati, you really encompass the true spirit and poesy of articulate classic writers.

Thank you, Wally! Much appreciated. I was very hard-headed myself, so understand this completely. We really knew nothing of life, did we?
